The reason that Calvin and Hobbes is such a timeless gem is because it is the absolute universal truth. My wife have hardly ever gone out to dinner alone since our children were born, and when we did, we almost invariably spent the evening talking about our kids.

“Freedom and justice shall always prevail over tyranny, Babysitter Girl!”
I had most of the Stupendous Man vs. Rosalyn escapade memorized at one time.
“S for Stupendous! T for tiger, ferocity of! U for underwear, red!”

Truth. But I wouldn’t trade the kiddos for anything. They keep life interesting.

we acquired a camera to “watch the dog” with, but it turns out its primary use is spying on the kids when we are out. It does help one relax and turn to other topics when you can just look on the phone and see all is well, or quickly intercede when it is clearly not well.

My motto has always been: Parenting never gets easier or harder. It just gets different.
My other motto, and this one isn’t original: You have to love your children, but you don’t always have to like them.

This. Stupendous Man is also why I stopped reading C&H to my kids for now , they’re just a little too young for it, so they immediately took to copying Stupendous Man and Spaceman Spiff. It was cute, briefly.

Mine has been: “You sleep more as they get older, but not more soundly”
